Variable Appreciable Life or Term Life Insurance?

I really want to toss my 'Piece of the Rock' due to lousy service. Trouble is, my VAL (since '99) is with them. My Ed Jones agent said there are term policies for more coverage and a better price. I trust him for my financial needs, but he is a salesman after all.
